People may ask……what kind of jobs are there in Agriculture?

When you mention the word Agriculture or farming most people think about tractors, cows and chickens but there are many other professions that you can pursue from engineering to fashion if you want a career in Agriculture.

 

The following are just a few:

Agricultural and Biological Engineer- Agricultural engineers work on machine design and the process of getting food from farm to plate. They work with environmental challenges such as working with water, soil and the air. Careers include forestry, construction and military industries. If you are more interested in environmental and natural resources, jobs can include government agencies and consulting firms.

Biological engineers- Deal with issues such as making food taste better and lasting longer. They find ways to get more value out of products. They research not only the food industries but also genetic engineering in plants.

Soil Scientist- They focus is on soil ecology, physics, chemistry, conservation and soil landscapes. Jobs can include working for environmental consulting firms.

Aquatic Ecologist- Work and research with areas of water and the relationship between water and the associated dry land. They look at the different forms of plant and animal life, even microscopic life. Careers can include working as advisors but even public roles such as animal parks or having a role in wetland visitor centre or even zoos are an option.

Horticulturalist- Work with plants and apply their knowledge to vegetables, fruits, ornamentals and non-food crops to maximise plants growth and health. Horticulturalists design landscapes and can manage golf courses. They can work in nurseries, education and research.

There are so many reasons to work in Agriculture. Not only can you be outdoors but there are many different diverse job opportunities, young people are welcome and the people that you work with will be down to earth.

Agriculture can offer job opportunities in both the country and city landscapes allowing people a different lifestyle choice if they chose.

Agriculture can assist in helping you to be more environmentally conscious, extending your knowledge further.

It is also a continually growing industry and as both the Australian and world population increase so does the need to feed and clothe the world.

Agriculture is truly a dynamic industry to be part of.
